Smashed-up shoulder = no quilting retreat :'(

Instead of enjoying a leisurely brunch with the fabulous 5 (Fran, Amy, Julie, Maria and Sarah), after what should have been one of my most favourite weekends ever, am sat in hospital waiting for surgery on my shoulder!!

What happened? Thursday afternoon, after picking up some essential supplies for my weekend retreat with the Strip Bee ladies, I tripped on a bit of pavement, catapulted forward, took the full impact of the fall on my shoulder and dislocated it! Ouch! Oh well, methinks, they'll 'pop' it back in, it'll be a bit sore but I'll be ok. No. Not even close. Yes they popped it back in ... eventually ... but I've damaged the humerus very badly. Have broken it in 3 places and the ball and socket are damaged too. Double ouch :(

It's a bit tricky taking a one-handed selfie but you have to have some pictures! And I have a great view from my bed out over the River Thames:

It's even trickier typing this up left-handed on my iPad! Yes, I broke the good side!! Hopefully, the operation will take place tomorrow and I'll recover well.

I am soooooooooooo very sorry that our weekend did not take place, ladies. I'm sorry not to have met you, I'm sorry not to have quilted with you, I'm sorry we didn't get to exchange our quilts, I'm sorry all your plans were halted ... I hope to be able to make it up to you one day.

Promise to keep you updated :)

  15. Jennifer, that view from the window is really fabulous but it's not worth the fall! I'm so sorry for your pain and misery and even more because your arm will be out of commission, so to speak, for a while. Take good care. Rest and take it easy so you can get better soon.

  17. Hugs and prayers that you will be well soon. I'm so sorry you are hurting, that does not sound like a quick fix. Now you need to learn a lot of left handed ways to keep your self busy. I have a friend that is recovering from a shoulder injury in which he ended up not following doctor's orders and had 2 surgeries. Follow your doctors orders and get well soon. You'll be back at it in no time.

  22. You wee soul! I leave you alone for a week, and this is what happens! Ouch ouch sounded like a sore one. Hope they're giving you tons of decent painkillers, and loads of magazines to keep you company. What a bummer you never got to your retreat. What can you do with your good arm out of action? Loads of planning, and being spoiled. hope your other half is keeping you entertained and treating you, well I was going to say like a queen, but you'd have to visit all the wards and wave and stuff, forget that. Like a millionairess he wants to win over :)
Much love and best wishes for a speedy recovery! xxxxxxxxx
